Rare Prajnaparamita Statue for sale

Our woodcarver in Bali creates the figure after an original from the 13th century in Indonesia (East Java). The 700 years old Prajnaparamita Statue, the model for our figure, is seen as a masterpiece of classical Hindu-Buddhist Art.

Prajnaparamita is known as The Mother of the Buddhas and the Female Form of Transcendental Wisdom. She honors the feminine, ancient and contemporary. 

The wood carver and production process: It takes 5-6 months to carve the 28 inch Prajnaparamita statue from a block of suar wood. The statue is still in process.

The carving artists are descencants from the carvers in the courts of the Javanese Palaces. With the rise of Islam at end of 15th century they fled to Bali, bringing with them Hindu and Buddhist arts, literature and religion. These influx' make Bali culture so rich and unique. 

Today, the young people from carving families are taking the easier route of working in hand phone shops or doing villa construction. Also, the wood for carving is disappearing in Bali.

Though, here is an interesting fact. Often a young carver would be almost as good as the older carvers. We are supporting this art that is infused with a power the world needs. 

This statue is still in process. It will be similar to the completed one on the photo.
